I spent some time looking at various options for news that work on the Mac and the iPod Touch (haven’t bought the iPhone 3G yet but soon, very soon…) and have settled on NetNewsWire. It took a while to massage all the feeds I had in Firefox and Google Reader, but I have finally got a manageable and relatively complete set. I divided them into groups (Java, Oracle, Mac, etc) for easier filtering. I have 151 feeds now and am trying to add the stuff I like to http://del.icio.us/michael.finocchiaro. More learning curve issues ahead with Digg and filtering…
The next step (and one of the key features of NNW) is to create some Smart Searches to get to the material I really am interested in. That and get the iPod Touch client to work in some semblance of a reasonable manner. My idea was that since Google Reader on the iPod Touch requires Safari to be hooked up – it doesn’t work off-line whereas NNW is, at least in theory, supposed to work in an off-line mode. So far, it seems a bit buggy but will be downloading and testing the latest patch later on.
Then I need to work on Yahoo! Pipes…
