New Role, New Challenges

Bowie's Hunky Dory - Source of "Changes"

I mentioned a few days back that I switched to the management track recently. What a big challenge that is. Actually, I switched at the same time from R&D to Marketing and that is a sea change as well. Pretty exhausting really. Ch-ch-ch-changes as David Jones (aka David Bowie) would say. To be honest I am dead tired and am gonna (sorry!) once again call this a short post.

Some reflections on change:

  • Scary at first
  • Once you buckle that seatbelt and breathe deeply, it seems to fit together better
  • The rhythm starts very fast, but if you hold on just long enough, things settle (repeat of point above but different angle)
  • Keep the mind clear and keep emotions at arm’s length but not out of reach
  • Lots of coffee
  • Organization is key – thank god I am already at Inbox Zero and have most of my daily tasks relatively automated. I.e., email is not a stress point even though it remains a bit obsessive on my part in terms of keeping up to date
  • Keep the 3 Fino rules of success in focus: (1) quality before quantity (2) the squeaky wheel gets the grease and (3) make yourself indispensable
  • Get more sleep (personal note to self – stop writing now and go to bed!)
