I attempted a run today – almost 8 months after knee surgery and it was not brilliant. It is so depressing to be aching after 10-15 minutes when only 16 months ago I was able to run for 3-4h. Argh. The knees were hurting a little, but I’ll be honest here, it was also just being overweight and out of shape that really did me in. Thing is, I can’t bring myself to head to the swimming pool to tune up a bit. It is so dreadfully boring. Back and forth. Back and forth. Always staring at the bottom of the pool and getting knocks on the head and legs from swimmers that I am trying to avoid colliding with as I pass them – or more often – they pass me. Anyway, I am discouraged but hoping to retry on Thursday.
In the meantime, the new show I mentioned, Hou$e of Lie$ is great – I think it is like Californication crossed with Dilbert. Oh, and Justified is also continuing to impress. I wonder what will happen with Boyd and Raylan in tonight’s episode…
Hi Michael,
Surely the problem wasn’t the aching after 10 minutes of running, but the running for 4 hours prior to needing knee surgery!
Were you training for a marathon? I think in the 1 to 2 hours is what you should be aiming for, unless you are aiming for something big?
I ran the Paris marathon in 2010 in just under 4 hours. Yeah, I know the goal should be getting back to 1 or 2 hours but the road ahead is very, very long. I gotta lose weight, get my resistance and breath back, and most importantly, quit smoking. Yikes! thanks for the encouragement and the comment though 🙂
